Increasing interest from researchers in accelerators has put pressure on existing computing and data resources and their facilities. New and anticipated compute architectures have power and cooling requirements that will further strain existing data center capacity. In some cases, they may not be feasibly implemented. To prepare for future needs, these requirements need to be understood by stakeholders within institutions of higher education. Next-generation data centers look to address these needs.
This Affinity Group supports the Midwest region’s interests in learning about advancements in facilities and operations of data centers. Furthermore, it enables partners in the region to better plan their next data center facility and/or facility upgrades. We aim to work with vendor partners to host regionally-located meetings to discuss this next-generation data centers. These meetings will bring together research computing and data professionals with local facility operators.
